Database management system

The term DBMS stands for database management system. Here database defines as a collection of related data items.

By data we means, fact and figures that are recorded as well as have implicit meaning. As a database is designed ,built and populated with data for a specific purpose .A database maybe generated or maintained manually as well as computerized .For computerizing the database some management systems  are used, which are known as database management system. hence ,a database management system is a collection of programs that enables users to create and maintain the database .DBMS is a general purpose software which enables to defining , constructing and sharing the database among users 

Defining the database involves specification of data types and structure of the data items.

Constructing the database means storing the data on some storage medium that is controlled by database management system.

Manipulating the database involves functions such as querying the database to retrieve specific data related to any record, any field, updating the data.

Sharing the database involves multiple users to access the data and programs simultaneously.

DBMS also involves the protection of data items .Here protection involves to protecting the data items from malfunction or unauthorized access.
