Computer network

 Computer network:-

Computer network is defined as collection of multiple nodes(devices) which are connected by using communication links for specific purpose. These nodes can be printer, scanner and other electronic devices. The main purpose of the computer network is to provide communication between different nodes

Notes:--Here communication links defined as the medium by which , one device can communicate  with other devices .Such communication links can be wired link or wireless link. In the OSI model physical layer is dedicated to data transmission in the network.

Components of computer network:----Basic components used for providing communication:--

Data transmission modes :------

Transmission modes or data communication links/ modes  are the one which are basically defines the way in which data items are transferred between two devices.

There are three data transmission modes:-

Simplex:--

-This mode provides one-way communication .It implies that only sender can transmit the data items ,and receiver can only receive that data items. It is mainly useful in business field as in sales department.

For example:    Radio, keyboard, mouse ….

Half duplex:----

This data transmission mode provides two way communication ,in which each station can transmit as well as  receive data items.

Note:----In half duplex ,only one system can send or receive data items at same time. This mode can be used for error detection .

For example:--Walkie-talkie, internet browser….

Full duplex:--

This data transmission mode can flow data items in both directions at the same time .So that it is bidirectional in nature .In this mode both the devices can send as well as receive data items simultaneously.

FEATURES:-----

Features of computer networks as:---

 Computer network architectural:----

1.Client-server model:--

The Client-Server network model is widely used network model. Here, Server is a powerful system that stores the data or information in it. The client request for service and server respond with the requested service.

When several clients request for the services simultaneously, a server can get bottlenecked

2.  Peer-to-peer model:--- In peer to peer model each node can either be. A client or a server depending on  the whether the node is requesting Or providing the services. Each node is considered as a peer. Each node can request for services and can also provide the services. Peer-to Peer suffers if the number of peers increases in the system.

Note:--When user doesn’t want to secure or abstract the data ,then this model is more preferable.
